How many bags do I need?
One bag covers about 1 to 1.5 square feet at 2 inches deep. Divide your area in square feet by 1.25. A 10 sq. ft. flower bed needs about 8 bags. Bigger project? Our bulk order option saves on price and shipping.
Matte vs. semi-polished vs. highly polished?
Matte looks the most natural and blends into garden beds and pathways. Semi-polished has a light sheen, clean without being flashy. Highly polished is glossy and reflective, best for fire pit surrounds and modern planters.
Can I put any stone in a fire pit?
Only stones labeled heat resistant. Our fire stones and lava pebbles handle sustained high heat. Regular garden stones can crack or pop under heat, so don't use them.
Will they survive a Canadian winter?
Yes. All our natural stones handle freeze-thaw cycles without cracking. Polished finishes might dull a bit after a few seasons outdoors, but the stone itself stays intact.
Which size should I pick?
½" to 1" works for filling gaps and top-dressing planters. 1" to 3" is the most popular for garden beds, borders, and walkways. 3" to 6" creates a bold look for rock gardens and water features. Picking the right size of decorative stones depends on how visible the area is and how much ground you need to cover.
Can I try before I buy?
Almost every stone has a 3 lb sample for $10.90 with free shipping. Enough to check color, texture, and size in person before ordering full bags.
Do polished stones stay shiny outside?
They lose some gloss after a couple of seasons. A rinse with water and mild soap brings most of it back. A stone sealant spray once or twice a year keeps them looking new. Indoors, no upkeep needed.
Garden vs. Signature stones?
Garden stones are our value line at $25.50 per bag. Signature stones are hand-selected for more uniform shapes and smoother surfaces. Worth the upgrade if the stones are going somewhere visible like a front yard or patio.
How do I prep the ground?
Clear weeds and debris, lay landscape fabric, then spread your decorative stones at least 2 inches deep. For walkways or high-traffic spots, add a compacted gravel base underneath first.
