The off-white to light gray palette of these flat, smooth stones makes them the ideal surface for laser engraving, pad printing, and calligraphy. Their neutral, luminous tone enhances any dark pigment or engraving, while their rounded edges and matte surface ensure a stable grip during use. Each stone is individually selected for the uniformity of its face.
These stones stand out from slate varieties due to their natural luminosity: black ink, markers, and engravings stand out with particularly sharp contrast against a light background. The untreated matte finish eliminates unwanted reflections when photographing or scanning finished creations, a significant advantage for artisans and studios. No special preparation is required before use. Simply wiping with water removes surface dust. Once the artwork is complete, applying a clear sealant will extend its lifespan.

Are these stones suitable for laser engraving on wood, or are they reserved for stone only? They are designed exclusively for stone engraving. Their matte mineral surface responds well to CO₂ and fiber lasers. For optimal results, first test the power settings on one stone from the batch, as the shade may vary slightly from one piece to another.
Is the off-white color uniform from one bag to another? Like all natural stone, slight color variations exist between batches. The shades remain within the off-white to light gray range, but a 3 lb sample allows you to validate the color before placing a large order.
What is the difference compared to the black slate stones from the same range? The distinction is primarily chromatic: the off-white/light gray stones provide a bright background that highlights dark engravings and vivid inks. Black slate stones create the opposite effect, making them ideal for light paints or gold and silver markers.
Can these stones be used for school projects or art workshops? Yes, their 1–2″ size is particularly well suited for workshops and group creative activities. The 22 lb bag contains between 100 and 130 stones in this size range, which represents a sufficient quantity for a complete workshop.
